6 Tips for a Successful Business Remodel

Making the decision to remodel your business can be both exciting and horrifying all at once! It is a major investment that could cause a few hiccups in the short term, but really pay off down the road. However, it is important to make good decisions along the way.

Just like building a house, it is important to acknowledge your expectations and understand what it will take to make those expectations a reality. Spend some time thinking about areas where you might be willing to sacrifice a top-of-the-line finish in return for an upgrade elsewhere. Also, think about how to use the remodel to make your business more efficient, and your customers and employees happier and more comfortable in the environment around them. Also, consider the time of year you’re hoping to make the remodel. After all, some months in Pinehurst are hotter than others – some are wet, some dry. While we can’t tell Mother Nature what to do, we can try to beat her at her own game!

Okay, so we already laid out a few tips for remodeling success above. Now, let’s dive a little deeper.

Contain the construction areas

If you are going to be open for Business Remodeling Pinehurst, it is a good idea to have the area being worked on contained if it is within sight of the general public. While not always necessary, Century Construction can rather easily create barriers to keep dust and debris out of customer service areas, or even offices where computers and electronics may still be in use. Containment may also be a good idea to keep customers and others out of areas that are under construction.

Remodel after hours

Right off the bat, it’s pretty likely you are going to pay more to have a crew working after hours. However, choosing this route can help keep your customers happier during normal business hours, especially if you run a business where it is important to have less chaos and noise. Having work done after-hours also allows the crew to work a bit more efficiently and freely than they can during business hours, meaning the project could potentially get done sooner.

Do your research

Any time you’re doing any kind of construction project, it is likely permits are going to be involved. While Century Construction can handle a lot of this for you, it might help for you to do a little research on necessary permits so you understand what all the paperwork coming your way means, and why there might be a slight delay from time to time waiting for a certain permit, inspection, etc.

Stay organized

Before a single tool is lifted, be sure you have a plan to keep your business organized during the process. That means putting important documents in a secure area, having a workflow in place for whatever new work may come in during the project, and even having traffic flow planned out for your employees and customers.

Be a good neighbor

We cannot emphasize the importance of being a good neighbor! If you’re in an office building, strip mall, or other location where you have adjoining neighbors, please be courteous and let them know before the project gets started. Century Construction crews work very hard to keep works areas as clean as possible, and vehicles, tools, and other items out of the way – but there is still going to be a pretty obvious buzz of activity at your business that may inadvertently affect those around you.
The last tip we have for you: don’t stress, and communicate! We will be communicating with you constantly throughout the project so hopefully, you never feel in the dark. However, if you have a question or concern, do not hesitate to speak up. Communication between you and your contractor, you and your staff, and the contractor and their crew are all vitally important to pulling off a successful remodel.

3 Signs That You Need A Home Remodel

Whether you are a long-time homeowner or just recently purchased an older home in the neighborhood, your home is going to be your safe haven. Your home is where you unwind from a long day, plan your future, spend time with your loved ones and make beautiful memories. But how do you know if it is time to update your home? There are a few key indicators that it might be a good time to plan a remodel that will either provide extra needed space or upgrade some elements that are outdated and need to be replaced. If you are thinking of home remodeling in  houston, you might consider calling a professional remodeling company that can guide you in the right direction.

Here are a few key elements that might mean it’s time for a remodel:

Outdated, Old Or Damaged Floors: You will know that it is time to replace your floors when the wood or tile seems to be detaching. Tiles and wood can crack after a long time of ware and take away from the value and comfort of your home. It’s not the end of the world, but it’s a great indicator that an upgrade is a good idea.

A Leaky Roof:  If you are constantly having to patch or repair your roof, it is time to replace it. In the long run, you will save a lot of money on maintenance by simply replacing the old existing one. Not only is the leaky roof taking time and money from you, but it can also cause serious water and mold damage that can become incredibly expensive to repair.

Too Little Or Too Much Space: Whether you are planning to grow your family, or downsize your home because your kids have grown and moved out, a home remodel is a great way to make your space fit your needs. Maybe you want to pull down the walls of a bedroom to make your kitchen bigger for entertaining purposes, or the unfinished basement is ready to be turned into a luxury bar room. For whatever the reason, professional contractors can help you design and create the perfect space for you.

With these thoughts in mind, think about the condition of your home and your current needs. Is your home costing you money because of costly repairs? Is the space big enough for your family or too big for you? If you notice uneven floors, a leak or leaks in your roof, and get the feeling of overcrowdedness or loneliness, these are clear signs that it is time to renovate your home. When you decide that it is time for a home remodel, call the professional team at Century Construction Services in Houston. Century Construction is experienced and skilled in all kinds of remodeling projects and can guide you in the right direction, giving you options and making sure to work within your budget. Your home is your investment. Keep the value up by taking care of the necessary repair work, but also make sure you find comfort in your space. If remodeling will help you find that comfort, give Century Construction a call!

Choosing A Contractor For Winter Remodeling

Nationally, spring and summer are popular seasons for remodeling, but they might not be the best times to work on your project. In Houston, the winter reprieve from non-stop air conditioning might prompt you to get the doors and windows open for a remodeling project.
Ideally, you’ll work with a contractor on your remodel before the busy season is in full effect which will allow ample time and resources to complete your project. The weather has an affect, as well. For example, installing new windows in 100 degree heat is probably a bad idea. So is pouring concrete in hurricane season. However, with some early planning and a little flexibility, you might be able to get your project in motion well before the main rush, allowing you to finish a little earlier and allowing your contractor to work more efficiently.
When to Remodel: Season By Season
The best time to remodel is, of course, going to change depending on the project you are planning. In most cases, it is a good idea to have your project take place at least two months before or after your contractor gets busy. Have your heating unit replaced in mid to late summer; have your A/C replaced in the winter. As window replacements are often summer projects, try to book in early spring. You’ll want the new deck ready for spring so why not contact a deck designer in the winter?
Another advantage of planning work in the last quarter is cutting through the red tape a little faster. In winter, your local government offices are a little less busy so it may take you less time to get all the permits you need. Scheduling an inspector can be a little easier, which means you can move from phase to phase in shorter periods of time.
Get Recommendations First
According to ConsumerAffairs.com, the first step in finding the right home improvement contractor is to create a list of 10-15 local contractors who have the right expertise. You’ll gradually narrow down this list to the top contenders and ultimately use it to select your contractor, so it’s best to include more names than you’ll need at this point.
Successful contractors will make it easy for you to get in touch with them and see examples of their work. Be cautious of home improvement contractors who lack: basic information, a website, social media presence, and independent reviews.
Choose a contractor who specializes in the type of remodel you need then check the portfolio of their projects from at least the last year. At least ten projects will represent the work. It should include: before photos, during the remodel and after project completion, blueprints, sketches or other plans.
Check References
Any reputable contractor will expect you to ask for a list of references.  A typical reference list will include multiple jobs with the name, address and telephone number of each customer. As you talk with each contractor’s references, eliminate any contractors that get bad or ambivalent reviews. Then decide which of the remaining references to visit in person to see the work; choose people who seem open and forthcoming, whose projects are similar to yours and, ideally, who live close to you.
Go With Your Gut
Local area contractors who have been in business for a long time are usually reliable and safe bets for projects. If they didn’t do good work in your community, they wouldn’t still be around. But meet the team in person. A contractor could be in your home and around your family for days, weeks, or even months so if you don’t like a contractor for any reason, don’t hire him or her.
The best time to start your project is when you are ready and have found the best contractor for your project.
